March is Kidney Health Awareness Month

Just a quick note to say that March is kidney health awareness month.

Garrett’s condition is genetic and specific, but we can all take care of our kidneys and reduce the risks of damage.

Here are some quick tips to take care of your kidneys. And if you have friends or family members who have diabetes, are pre-diabetic, have hypertension or other conditions that can damage their kidneys, encourage them to eat healthy, exercise, and get regular check ups.

Take care of your kidneys!

  • Cut back on salt. Aim for less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day.
  • Choose foods that are healthy for your heart: fresh fruits, fresh or frozen vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods.
  • Exercise!
  • Take steps to stop smoking.
  • If you have diabetes, control your blood glucose level.
  • Limit alcohol intake.

I love this Get Involved page, which gives super easy, specific things you can do to be healthy and raise awareness in your every day life with the people you love.

Tell us how you’ll help us celebrate Kidney Health Awareness Month–the month Garrett gets a new super-kidney!
